Pope Francis’ participation in the G7 summit on artificial intelligence (AI) was met with general curiosity. The Pontiff is clearly aware of the dangers of certain applications of artificial intelligence which often remain out of the spotlight. In fact, there isn’t just one problem related to AI’s intrinsic characteristics and to the questions that its future development raises regarding the way we communicate and relate to one another. There is also the problem of its areas of application which — as with many other scientific and technological innovations before it — seem to prioritize the military sector. What has been happening in the war in Gaza is thus a dramatic warning.
