You shall not kill is the commandment, the fifth one, that confronts us with the inhuman possibility that a human person can take the life of a fellow human being. The Ten Commandments ask us to observe love of God and love of neighbour in order to journey the path of salvation. It is so for us Christians; not to kill should be a moral law for all humankind.
Death is the opposite of life. Killing is the opposite of living. Giving life is the opposite of taking life. Who has the authority to take life? Who has the power to kill or order the death of another? Who is he who allows for these deaths to multiply and who has the power to stop them but does not?
